For the Mandarin Oriental, Munich, we photographed Barbara Göttling to mark her new position as General Manager of the hotel. The goal was to create a natural series of portraits that would convey her personality, presence, and connection to the hotel.
The business and executive portraits were taken on the rooftop terrace overlooking Munich, as well as inside the hotel. Both locations connect the portrayal of the executive with their work environment and the character of the hotel.
Portraits on the rooftop terrace and inside the hotel
From the rooftop terrace, the view of Munich served as the backdrop for the photos. We made sure to strike a balance between the subject and her surroundings: the view establishes the connection to the location, while Barbara Göttling remains the focal point.
For the interior shots, we used a variety of backgrounds and lighting moods to create additional portrait variations. The rooms at the Mandarin Oriental give the photos a direct connection to the hotel and complement the open vistas of the rooftop terrace.
Natural Expression and a Professional Demeanor
During the shoot, we experimented with different body postures, directions of gaze, and perspectives. Clear direction and room for natural expression helped the subjects feel relaxed in front of the camera.
Lighting, positioning, and composition were tailored to each setting. The result is a cohesive series that showcases Barbara Göttling in her role as general manager while also highlighting her personality.
Portraits for Corporate Communications and the Press
The variety of visuals provides options for the hotel’s communications—from its website and press relations to LinkedIn, interviews, and other PR applications.
By linking the individual to the hotel environment, the portraits represent both the general manager and the hotel she manages. The shared visual language ties the images together across the various locations.
