For the Atelier restaurant at the Hotel Bayerischer Hof in Munich, we conducted a food photo shoot with Executive Chef Kevin Romes. Our first collaboration marked the beginning of a new culinary visual identity for the restaurant.
The focus of the food photography was on the dishes and the chef’s culinary signature. Natural lighting, careful styling, and a clean composition were intended to portray the dishes authentically and highlight the craftsmanship behind them.
Dishes, Textures, and Culinary Style
The minimalist plates and precise compositions shaped the photographic execution. Using subtle, controlled lighting, we highlighted the textures, sauces, garnishes, and subtle color nuances. At the same time, we sought to preserve the natural texture of the dishes and the character of their presentation.
Overall views of the dishes were complemented by selected details. The result was a cohesive series that showcases both the composition on the plate and individual ingredients and how they were prepared.
Collaboration Between the Kitchen and Photography
The photos were taken in close coordination with the kitchen team. Freshly plated dishes change in appearance within a short time: their sheen, consistency, and texture require precise timing between the kitchen and the photographer.
Together, we adjusted the position, composition, and lighting to suit each subject. Working with Kevin Romes and his team allowed us to photograph the dishes immediately after they were plated and capture their distinctive details.
Food Photos for Restaurant Marketing
The photo series was created to promote the studio. The images can be used on the website, in press materials, on social media, and in other communication channels for the restaurant and hotel.
The consistent visual style ties the individual dishes together and enhances the visual presentation of the cuisine under Kevin Romes.
